Humanity's Immune System

The health of our individual immune system cannot be separated from our community, the land we live with, or the entire globe as a whole. What is happening to others is happening to us. We are the towns and cities we live in. What is harming the health of the plants and animals, is harming us. In the book Blessed Unrest, Paul Hawken charts the civil society movement across the planet, describing it as – “humanity's immune response to toxins like political corruption, economic disease, and ecological degradation.”

The movement happening across the globe encompasses a complex, diverse, bottom-up network centered around conservation, compassion, and love for all life on Earth.

There is no center, no easily defined agenda, but the movement is a powerful entity that reaches all ends of the globe. It is unique, focused, and carries a collective consciousness that is working toward betterment for all through compassion and care.

Anyone can get involved in the movement. Rewild your back yard and see what food and medicine grows, naturally. Limit time using products and services from corporations who don’t give back to people and the planet in meaningful ways. Go visit a national park or state preserve on your next vacation. Choose people and places who choose you. Small choices make meaningful life improving impacts that have a ripple effect on all.

Resistance is an immune response to unchecked corporate power, political lobbying, ecological degradation, and Industry’s disregard for life in the name of profit. It has been described as pathology, sickness of the global immune system that can only be healed by the will of the people. This work is in motion, alive, and will continue to transform with time and intention. It starts with our choices.

Immune Boosting Practice

Get comfortable where you are. Take three deep breaths. Become aware of one thought that you have been ruminating over for some time.

Set an intention to release the thought. Ask yourself: Is there anything I can do in the present moment to change how I am relating to this thought? Does this thought serve my greatest good? Is this worth my time?

If this thought is not important- let it go.

Take three more deep breaths. Breathing in to the count of 4. Hold for 3. Breathe out for 5. Hold for 3. Repeat.

To our health,

Britt
